Information about our efforts at growing fruit trees in our small orchard can be found below. There’s also some information about our nut trees, that aren’t in the orchard, but seem best categorised under this topic.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve planted three apple trees. One of which is a fancy (possibly gimmicky) dual-varieties-off-a-single-root-graft type of thing. The four types of apples we should get from these three trees are Pink Ladies, Granny Smith, and the multigrafted Gala and Fuji.
Read More »»»I have planted two cherry trees in our orchard, one a ‘Stella’ cherry and the other a ‘Sunburst’ cherry. They came as bare root stock, and I planted them with only a little spare fertiliser.
Read More »»»Our walnut tree arrived last autumn as a “bare root” delivery, with instructions to get it into the ground ASAP, before the roots dried out. As I was busy all day, it lay around until evening, and I had to plant it in the dark (somewhat crookedly and not necessarily at the right depth – the ambient starlight leaving the hole pitch black).
